Comparison of four wavelet-based methods for compression of ECG signals

Wavelet-based methods for compression of Electrocardiogram
(ECG) signals has been proved to
perform well [1][2]. In this paper a new wavelet based
method for image compression, X-tree [3], is
introduced for compression of ECG signals. A
novel method combining the wavelet-based Vector
Quantization (VQ) method of [1] with the X-tree
method is proposed as a computationally and conceptually
more attractive alternative to [1]. A total
of four different wavelet-based methods for compression
of ECG signals are tested and compared on
several different ECG signals.
