Double Pipe Heat Exchangers

A double-pipe helical heat exchanger was studied numerically and experimentally for both heat transfer and hydrodynamic characteristics. Numerical studies were performed with the aid of a commercial computational fluid dynamics package. Two sizes of the heat exchanger were investigated; the difference between the two was the diameter of the inner tube. Simulations were performed using various flow rates (laminar regime) in the inner tube and in the annulus, as well as for parallel flow and counterflow
