Environmental impacts of water desalination

Large-scale desalination plants constructed in the coastal region of the
Mediterranean Sea of Israel and the Palestinian Authority have strong
impacts on the environment. In the southern zone the coastal region is
wide. This zone is an overpopulated region with extremely high
population growth rates. The impact of the noise and land use will be
high. The southern coastal part also has a wide continental shelf,
giving high impacts to the Marine Habitats. On the other hand the
northern part of the coastal zone is a narrow region with a narrow
continental shelf. On the northern part there is a strong impact on the
utilization of the narrow coastal land by destination the seashore for
desalination activities instead of using it for recreation and tourism. In
addition to the impact on the Marine life and mainly the seaweeds.
