Phase Shift Assessment

Temporal phase shifting (TPS) provides most accurate interferogram wave-front extraction. The measurement accuracy of Temporal phase shifting depends on the phase and intensity errors. An elegant method for phase shifter calibration and recording error detection presented by Gutmann and Weber uses the lattice-site representation of the phase shift angle in detector pixels. The approach enables finding the mean phase step value between the interferograms and some error sources. We present the application of lattice-sites to detection of other Temporal phase shifting errors, i.e., different average intensities and nonlinear detection of Temporal phase shifting frames and tilt -shift error. Since the asymmetries and spreads of the lattice-sites of main interest, they are well displayed using binary representation combining two highly populated cores and tails into one well-defined structure. Popular four and five frame algorithms are considered. Numerical studies are complemented by experiments.
